Wanhao Duplicator i3 plus mods


Here is what we need for this upgrade.


· We require three 3D printed thumb screws


· We also need spring cups. The ones with larger holes are for the top part of the spring. The ones with smaller holes go on the bottom.


· we require six of them, two for each spring. And we print them with something a little bit more temperature resistant than PLA.


· We need 3 em3 lock nuts.


· We'd need a pair of pliers and the Allen key.


1- Unscrewing


We will start by unscrewing the built plane, so unscrew all three thumb screws. Now carefully lift the bill plate. Try not to lose any springs or break the wires. On the back of the heated build plate.


2- Top cops with larger holes.


Now here is why we needed the top cops with larger holes. The I three-plus have these lock nuts installed here. Whereas the regular I three does not, so if you have an i3, I recommend adding these locknuts. These are regular m3 lock nuts. With some sort of thermal isolating washer between the locknuts.


3- Tighten up


let's tighten up these locknuts. Otherwise, the screws will rotate when we adjust our bed. So, we keep the lock nut with a European pair of pliers and, using your Allen key, tighten up those screws.


4- Grabbing


Now that we have all our screws tightened, let's grab the top spring cup with a larger hole in it. It's a tight fit. so, you may want to use your pair of pliers carefully. just grab a pair of pliers.


5- Assembling


let's start assembling our build plate back. So, grab your spring. Put it back onto the screw so the top of the spring goes inside the spring cup. It's going to hold it. Repeat with all three springs like this. Now let's put the bottom cups, obviously, on the bottom. Here comes the fun part. We will start by assembling our grab a thumbscrew. Its 3D printed in PLA. Grab a night Lok.


6- Use a pair of pliers


It's kind of tight. In that case, again, use a pair of pliers. Now repeat two more times just the same way and screw it in place.


7- Improve stability


So, we're pretty much done with the screws. They should be fairly tight. Nothing should wobble. Now let's put our glass back on the bed and let's see if we can level it. Give it a try. This mod is supposed to improve the bed stability.


8- Improvement


Before the heat, it's real level and just breathes. So here is our printer fully assembled and working. It is nice to have it improved. Now I can go like ten miles per hour. During long prints, the screws do not get loose, and the bed doesn't go out. Yeah, I would say that the print quality has somewhat improved.
